Press-In Inserts
Press-In Inserts are designed to reduce installation cost. Moderate pull-out and good torque requirements are provided by the helical knurl which also facilitates good plastic flow. Series 50 and 51 Inserts allow for easy and quick installation. The Series 50 is symmetrical with a generous pilot. Series 51 is the headed version which is also suitable for pull-through applications where high pull-out force is a requirement.

Heat/Ultrasonic Inserts are designed for post-mold installation into thermoplastics. Heat and ultrasonic installation yield outstanding performance results. Available in long and short variations; long for maximum torque and pull-out resistance, short for less stringent requirements with the benefits of lower cost and reduced installation time. SPIROL offers Heat/Ultrasonic Inserts designed for both straight holes (Series 19, 20, 29 and 30) for maximum performance with low radial stress, and tapered holes (Series 14) for ease of location and installation time.

Self-Tapping Inserts provide the best pull-out resistance for a post-mold installed Insert, yet generally cost more than their post-mold counterparts. The external threads are designed with a thin profile to minimize induced stress in the plastic and have a relative coarse pitch to provide the maximum plastic shear surface to resist pull-out. SPIROL’s Series 10 is a thread-forming Insert for soft, flexible thermoplastics.

Molded-In Inserts are placed into the mold cavity prior to plastic injection molding and offer exceptional torque and pull-out resistance due to unrestricted plastic flow around the Insert body. Molded-In Inserts are designed for maximum pull-out and torque performance, and are often the Insert of choice for thermosets and engineered plastics with a high percentage of filler. The minor thread diameter tolerance is controlled to ensure positive positioning and perpendicularity of the Insert on the core pin during the molding process. SPIROL’s standard Molded-In Inserts are manufactured from lightweight, lead-free aluminum. The Through-Hole Series 63 is symmetrical which eliminates the need for orientation, and Series 65 has the same body style, yet with a blind end.

In addition to a broad offering of standard Threaded Inserts for Plastics available from stock, SPIROL also offers a variety of Inserts that are “made-to-order” to accommodate legacy designs as well as new designs with unique requirements that prevent the use of a standard Insert. These non-stocked alternative Inserts include: Brass Molded-In, Heat/Ultrasonic (for tapered and straight holes) and Threaded Cutting Inserts.
If you would like assistance in selecting the most appropriate Insert for your application, please contact SPIROL for complimentary technical support. When reviewing your design requirements, SPIROL’s Application Engineers will help you select the most appropriate Insert to achieve your performance and cost objectives. The most beneficial to you would be to design in a standard Insert, but if required, we will design a custom part to meet your custom requirements.
